Brush Art Gallery
5:30 pm – 6 pm Make your own Portuguese tile  painting. Visitors can paint a tile similar to the "azulejos" that are used in public and private places.
7:00 pm – 8:30 pm Screening of "Talking to the Wall" Honorarium with Steve Alves.
Second generation Portuguese-American filmmaker, Steve Alves, will present his latest production, Talking to the Wall: The Story of an American Bargain about his search for community.  The one-hour documentary tells of Alves' flight from sprawl that led him to
Greenfield, Massachusetts, a town with a vibrant town center and an active community life.  A proposed Wal-Mart shopping center two miles north of Main Street precipitates both a personal and a town-wide crisis. The story examines another side of the bargain offered by large corporate chains—one that paves over open space, obliterates local culture, lowers wages, and eliminates manufacturing jobs.  This sharp-edged blend of humor and drama is a welcomed addition to Alves collection of films about culture and community. www.talkingtothewall.com
